HCSMC Solo Artist Competition
In an effort to promote individual performance and an opportunity to be creative, the Hillsborough County Secondary Music Council is presents the Solo Artist Competition. Opening for submission on October 1st, we invite students to submit a solo of their choosing to the HCSMC website (see below). This initial round will be available to our high school students only. We will be introducing a middle school division in the Spring. Students will submit a video of their performance of a work of music of their choosing to be evaluated by a panel. This panel will narrow the entrees to the top 5 submissions. Those top 5 submissions from EACH music domain (band, choir, orchestra) will be posted to our voting platform and the individual with the most votes will win a cash prize. The entry price for each ENTRY (not student - just like with all-county) is $5.
Participant Submission Requirements
Submissions are open on October 1-30 ($5)
Musical excerpt must be at least 2 minutes in length, but not no longer than 5 minutes
Accompaniment is not required but is suggested
Excerpts must be from the classical genre. No pop tunes, jazz or modern pieces will be accepted during this round
Music does not have to be on a State Approved list but must be a published piece and approved by your Director
One entry per student
Students must attend a Hillsborough County High School; Directors of the student must be a HCSMC member
A Media Release must be signed by both student and parent. Email your completed media release form to HCSMCEXECBOARD@GMAIL.COM
Your media release form willstay on file for the 2020-2021 school year. You only need to submit it once in order to compete throughout the year
All Submission info must be filled out in its entirety for your submission to be judged.
No late submissions will be accepted. They must be time stamped before 11:59PM on October 30
An audition fee of $5 is due at the time of submission. All payments must be completed online through our PayPal link below
Videos must be submitted on your individual Youtube platform. You will then submit the Link in your application. Finalists will be notified to put their video submission in the Dropbox
Check your video before submitting to ensure that your sound and video are of good quality
The top finalists will be announced on November 6 and are decided by the HCSMC Executive Board
Once the top finalists have been announced a voting link for the public will be open. Voting will start on November 6 and end on November 15
Winners will be announced via Email on November 16. and are decided by the Public based on the persons with the highest number of votes. A Video will also be put on HCSMC.org announcing the winners.
The top 3 finalists will be the only ones announced. The first-place winner of each category will receive a prize money scholarship which is contingent on the number of entries but will not be less than $100
